Icene Unseen
Icene follows the River Itchen in Hampshire from its mouth at Weston Shore to it's source near Hinton Ampner, the final 25 images for this project were shot on a 5x4 film camera, however prior to shooting those I shot over 100 images on 35mm film. These 35mm images got put in a folder and never seen by anybody except myself and my lecturers. In spring 2026, almost a year after shooting these images, I found the negatives again and decided to digitise them and finally share them with the world.
These photographs provide a closer look at the river as a whole, the landscapes surrounding it and the lives it shapes - including my own. This collection of photographs shows the instinct driven way I initially captured the river with my 35mm before having to have a more methodical eye for the 5x4.

All of these unseen 35mm images were taken along the lower section of the river during my research phase of the project. I marked every single location on a map so that I could return to it easily with the 5x4 camera if that location was chosen to be a final location.
Below is the map of all of the locations along the river where I took photographs, most of these photographs not seen by anybody until now.
